Whitby jet mourning jewellery pattern.

Whitby, in North Yorkshire was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ and is the spiritual home of goths. The Victorians wore only black during a period of mourning following the death of a loved one. The world famous Whitby jet was carved into all sorts of beautiful pieces to respectfully accessorise the outfit of a lady in mourning.
